Reaction Engineering and Reactor Design - CHE 420

Review of fundamental concepts in chemical reaction thermodynamics and kinetics and their application to the design of isothermal and non-isothermal reactors. Mass and energy balances for homogenous ideal reactors. The concepts of batch, semi-batch and continuous operations are discussed as well as reactor stability. Reactor design with emphasis on the minimization of by-products and pollution production. The effect of heat and mass transfer on the global rate are discussed for heterogeneous reactions. Prerequisites: CHE 310, CHE 320.
