NDU OBSERVATORY AT BCHARRI

Notre Dame University- Louaize (NDU) Dean of the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences (FNAS) Dr. George Eid; Chairperson of the Department of Physics and Astronomy Dr. Marwan Gebran; and Faculty Member at NDU Dr. Bassem Sabra visited on October 20, 2018 the Municipality of Bcharri in order to follow up on the future location of the NDU observatory which will house the telescope that was donated by the government of Japan through the National Astronomical Observatories of Japan (NAOJ).

The team was welcomed by Dr. Kamil Rahme, Member of the Municipality of Bcharri and Associate Professor at the Department of Sciences – FNAS; Samir Keirouz Director of the Municipality of Bcharri; and Dr. Bachir Maroun Senior Lecturer at the Department of Computer Science – FNAS.

Using the municipality cars and logistics, the group went on driving through “Jabal Makmal” in order to select the best location for the construction of NDU observatory. After several stops, the team selected different locations to be analyzed and discussed.

Next meeting will be held soon with the municipality in order to study more up to date maps of the Bcharri area, especially in relation to its borders in the Makmal region.
