Poster Competition

THEME

You, Junior Scientist, Engineer, or Economist, observe and analyze your natural and built environments; environments in which you grow and live. On a daily basis, you interact with places that incorporate physical characteristics, biological components, and socio-cultural and aesthetic associations. You are an integral part of these environments given that you constitute what we term “cultural landscapes”. Cultural landscapes represent features of local cultures, natural resources, historical evolution of the moral relationship between humans and nature, and the moral values of nature vis–à–vis societies.

While focusing on features in the natural and built environments, you present your audience with your unique perception of the natural world, the importance of natural and cultural heritages in our evolving societies, and the role of international communities in the conservation of cultural landscapes.

We invite you to submit your posters that relate to landscape ecology as part of the cultural landscapes under the following four axes:

Landscape ecology and natural features (vegetation formations, rock formations); Natural monuments: natural bridges, caves, gorges, etc.;
International and regional programs of work on the cultural landscapes and bio-cultural diversity: World Heritage Convention, Convention on Biological Diversity, EU Convention;
Conservation of natural and cultural landscapes: World Heritage Sites in Lebanon, “Geopark”, Biosphere Reserve, etc.;
Concept of construction in historical cities and traditional sites in Lebanon;
Impact of the construction sector and economic development on cultural landscapes in urban and rural areas in Lebanon;
New approaches that should be adopted to protect the landscape and the environment among which include sustainable construction and eco-cities;
The importance of participatory planning for better conservation of cultural landscapes: roles of the Directorate General of Urban Planning, Council for Development and Reconstruction, and Order of Engineers;

Your poster must highlight the major facts that should be used as foundations for awareness campaigns on the importance of Cultural Landscapes.
