Overview of the thermal and membrane-based desalination technologies for fresh water production. Fundamental thermodynamic and transport processes for desalination of seawater and brackish ground water will be covered. Discussion of the economic and environmental factors which limit the performance of desalination systems. Emerging technologies for desalination such as nanofiltration will be highlighted.
