Colloids, Interfaces and Surfaces - CHE 501
The course covers the physical and chemical phenomena that occur at the interface of two phases. Topics include: surface tension, capillarity, electrical aspects of surface chemistry, contact angle, flotation, aggregation and flocculation, detergency, surfactants, lubrication and adhesion, etc. Applications in coating and painting, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry, food, paper, photographic technology, emulsion polymerization, petroleum recovery. Prerequisites: CHE 210, CHM 222.
