Pulp and Paper Technology - CHE 525

The course is an introduction to pulping and papermaking process. Topics include: wood and fibre sources and properties, chemical and mechanical pulp processing and the effect on paper properties, stages and operations of bleaching, waste treatment and environmental regulation, additives to improve quality operation of the wet end and dry end, paper machine operations, paper properties and testing, recycling systems, paper alternatives. Prerequisite: CHE 430.
