Marwan Moukarzel
Alumnus Marwan Moukarzel (BBA’93) has adopted the new role of CEO International of Fawaz Al Hokair Group as of May 2022. The Group is a Saudi Arabian holding company active in the management and operation of shopping malls, fashion retail, restaurants, entertainment centers, cinemas, hotels, and renewable energy. In his capacity, Marwan is focused on expanding current relationships and driving new opportunities for the Group with the world’s best brands across the Middle East, Europe, the U.S.A., and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
The Notre Dame University-Louaize (NDU) Graduate recounts his appreciation for his academic career and its influence on his professional life, stating: "NDU has a special place in my heart. It taught me to dream big and fight to be the best you can. Back in the day, in 1993, NDU was a relatively new university and more of a big family where we all used to know each other. Yet it was aiming to position itself amongst the greatest in Lebanon and the region. Now we are all proud of what NDU has evolved to be. It is a great story to learn from, whether in terms of perseverance, hard work, or people skills. Proud to be part of this growing family."
Prior to assuming his new position, Marwan’s previous duties at Al Hokair included CEO of Al Hokair Fashion Retail, where it was listed as the top lifestyle retailer of choice in Saudi Arabia under his leadership. His turnaround strategy set the company on a path of sustainable growth, reaching milestones such as the successful optimization of its portfolio, procuring international lifestyle brands—Decathlon, Fnac Darty, and Alo Yoga, to name a few—and developing a genuine omnichannel shopping experience through the acquisition of the U.K.-based VogaCloset.
His tenure at Al Hokair was preceded by a career at Azadea Group, where he served first as Deputy CEO, CFO, and General Manager of the company. As General Manager, Marwan was able to steer the business toward entering new markets and fostering strong relationships with brand owners and major real estate developers.
With over 25 years of professional experience, Marwan has taken on the roles of External Auditor at Deloitte in Abu Dhabi and Ernst & Young in Lebanon, as well as Head of Internal Audit for a major retail and wholesale operator in Qatar.
In addition to holding a BBA from NDU, Marwan is a Certified Public Accountant (U.S.), Certified Internal Auditor (U.S.), and holds an Executive MBA from Institut Européen d'Administration des Affaires (INSEAD).
