“For it is in giving that we receive.” (St. Francis of Assisi)
In observance of Labor Day 2018, the Campus Ministry and Pastoral Work Community at Notre Dame University-Louaize (NDU) organized on Monday, April 30, 2018, in the Study Room - Dorms, Block A, the annual Labor Day Lunch for the Global Co. foreign janitors subcontracted to work at NDU. This event is meant to honor them and thank them for all the hard work they put into keeping the campus clean and tidy.
In attendance were NDU President Fr. Pierre Najem and Vice-President for Administration (VPA) Fr. Samir Ghsoub, and the Campus Ministry team: University Chaplain General at NDU Fr. Albert Assaf, Fr. Antonio Feghali, and Fr. Jean Pierre Eid.
Fr. Assaf gave a speech in which he said, "I, and all the reverend fathers in the administration, appreciate your enormous effort to care for this community. Since you are far from home, we wanted to express our love for you by celebrating Labor Day together and by saying ‘thank you’ for your diligence and loyalty to this University.”
During the event, foreign workers wore both their traditional costumes and beaming smiles. This time, it was our turn to serve them! We served lunch followed by three interactive games, at the end of which three winners received prizes and everyone received a box filled with foodstuff (generously and kindly arranged by the Department of Sponsorship at NDU).
Our foreign workers eagerly look forward to this gathering every year; a day where they can kick back, relax, and enjoy every pleasant moment, as roles are switched in the most beautiful cultural blend. We, too, look forward to this annual event, for the smiles painted on their faces are worth their weight in gold.
