"We often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude." Cynthia Ozick.
To celebrate Labor Day, Campus Ministry and Pastoral Work Group at Notre Dame University-Louaize (NDU) organized on Thursday, May 4, 2017, in the Study Room - Dorms, Bloc A, the annual Labor Day Lunch for the Global Co. foreign janitors subcontracted to work at NDU. This event is meant to honor them and thank them for all their hard work toward keeping our campus clean and tidy.
University Chaplain General at NDU Fr. George Nassif gave a speech in which he said, "I speak for myself and on behalf of all the reverend fathers in the administration when I say that we appreciate all the effort you put into caring for this community. Because you are far away from home, we wanted to show you our love by celebrating Labor Day together and by thanking you for all your hard work throughout the year."
For this event, foreign workers dressed in their traditional costumes and wore beaming smiles throughout. This time, it was our turn to serve them! We served lunch, which was followed by three interactive games, at the end of which three winners received prizes and everyone received goodie bags, generously and kindly arranged by the Sponsorship Office at NDU.
Our foreign workers eagerly look forward to this gathering every year; a day where they can kick back, relax, and enjoy every pleasant moment as roles are switched in the most beautiful cultural blend. We, too, look forward to this event every year, for the smiles painted on their faces are worth their weight in gold.
