ARCHBISHOP OF TRIPOLI VISITS NDU-NLC

On the occasion of the University’s 35th Founders’ Day, the Maronite Archbishop of Tripoli, Youssef Antoine Soueif, visited Notre Dame University-Louaize, North Lebanon Campus (NDU-NLC) to discuss the nature of philosophy and its role in the education of citizens about enlightened citizenship, freedom and human dignity.

The ceremony began with a rendition of the Lebanese national anthem and an opening speech by Fr. François Akl, Director of the NDU-NLC.

Archbishop Soueif spoke of the meaning of citizenship and patriotism and how it is manifested by the value of unconditional loyalty, sacrifice and devotion toward one’s homeland. He went on to explain how a personal sense of belonging, for instance the sense of belonging to a community which you can shape and influence directly.

He also reflected on the Second Centennial of Greater Lebanon and stressed on the important role that the Church plays in building lasting peace in conflict-affected societies. “It is in the core of Lebanon’s mission, to protect human dignity and live together in peace with one another as good neighbors”, he said. 

The meeting ended with a group photograph, followed by a buffet lunch.
