June 23, 2019 – The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering (FE) at Notre Dame University-Louaize (NDU), Dr. Michel El Hayek, was presented with the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) Student Activities Achievement Award at the 2019 ASHRAE Annual Conference.
The NDU Student Branch of ASHRAE started in 2004, and has been working to promote the core activities of ASHRAE worldwide – the sciences of heating, ventilating, air-conditioning and refrigeration – ever since. Every year, the branch is tasked with organizing at least one or two field trips to selected sites, one or two seminars per semester about topics related to the activities of ASHRAE, as well as contributing to faculty-wide activities involving all societies. As a result, the NDU Student Branch of the Lebanese ASHRAE Chapter has become the largest in the country.
Dr. El Hayek served as the NDU branch’s advisor since the group was established, and has helped organize many activities over the years. He has gone on to serve as the Student Activities Chair for the Lebanese ASHRAE Chapter between 2009 and 2016, the Chapter President-Elect between 2010 and 2012, the Chapter President between 2012 and 2014, and the Regional Vice Chair for Student Activities of ASHRAE Region-at-Large and member of the Student Activities Committee at society level between 2016 and 2019. He has been a member of the Board of Governors of the Lebanese ASHRAE Chapter since 2014, and the Vice-Chair of the Scholarship Trustees of ASHRAE. It is this continuous commitment to the ASHRAE organization, and the students that their activities cater to which has earned Dr. El Hayek the Student Activities Achievement Award.
Speaking about the award, Dr. El Hayek reflected on the achievements of the NDU branch of the Lebanese ASHRAE Chapter: “we are currently the largest branch thanks to the contribution of exceptional committees always ready to volunteer and dedicate some of their time to serving their peers and the industry.”
Congratulations to Dr. El Hayek for your contributions to NDU’s mission as a student-centric university.
