The Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences (FNHS) at NDU, in collaboration with the Municipality of Okaibe and the Bouar Governmental Hospital, organized on Sunday, April 23, 2017, from 8.30 a.m. till 2 p.m., in the Andalous Okaibe Club, a health awareness day on the topic of chronic diseases.
Assistant Professor of Nutrition and Dietetics and Chairperson of the FNHS Dr. Jessy el-Hayek said, “In addition to its academic role, the FNHS, through its faculty members and students, have a social responsibility to communicate with the community-at-large to increase awareness about chronic diseases that many people struggle with daily and to provide them with simple lifestyle and dietary tips and hacks to help them improve their overall health.”
The awareness day included multiple health activities, such as free blood tests, personalized health assessments and advice, and nutrition and health presentations. For his part, the Municipality Council President Joseph Daccache said lightheartedly, “The results of my blood test showed me to be ‘Okaibe’ positive.”
Amid a cheerful atmosphere, many entertaining and competitive activities were organized, including sports activities, a cooking competition in partnership with AMC, and a fire-drill activity with the fire rescue service. Those who participated in these activities received a ‘Certificate of Participation.
