Chedid Re, the reinsurance arm of Chedid Capital, has launched an annual sponsorship initiative in memory of the late Georges Mokbel, a key leader who played a significant role in the company's growth. Through this initiative, Chedid Re will award a scholarship each year under its joint Master of Science in Actuarial Sciences program with Notre Dame University-Louaize (NDU). The scholarship will be given to a deserving student in Mokbel's name, honoring his legacy and commitment to education and leadership development.
For Fall 2024, Andrew Bou Chabke has been awarded the full scholarship among three other candidates. Grateful for being selected, Andrew expressed his excitement about the program's potential to enhance his career prospects and emphasized how it connects students to the job market, looking forward to the opportunities it will offer in the future. “Combining my background in financial engineering with my current studies in actuarial sciences is a perfect plan to gain an edge in a competitive market, allowing me to make smarter investments in the future”, shares Andrew, who is currently working on a startup business. Bou Chabke finds the academic and social life truly enjoyable on campus, and gives high credit to one of his professors at NDU who offered him an internship opportunity which kicked off his whole career.
Launched in partnership with Chedid Re in 2019, the NDU Master of Science in Actuarial Sciences program aims to advance education, capacity building, and specialization in the actuarial field, addressing a gap in the local and regional market. NDU was the first university in Lebanon to offer an Actuarial Sciences specialization in 1993. The Master of Science in Actuarial Sciences program is open to students with a background in Actuarial Sciences, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or Financial Engineering, supported by the Chedid Re scholarship.
NDU wishes Andrew success in his career path, hoping his experience will inspire other ambitious students.
