NDU Architecture alumna, Maria Sfeir, won the Shape Diver 2019 Award during the Algorithmic Accessories V4.0 organized by Design Morphine at TU Wien, Vienna - Austria. Maria’s jewelry design was chosen as the best product design during the four intensive days of the workshop.
Sfeir participated with people in various fields from all around the world, including architects and jewelry designers. She presented her product to an international jury of professional Jewelry designers and Architects.
The Algorithmic Accessories V4.0 Workshop was taught by Lidia Ratoi and Eva Blšáková, members at Design Morphine, with the assistance of Georg Lobe. The workshop is not only aimed at Jewelry designers, but all who are interested in paring computational design with real-life. During the workshop, students created modeling and fabrication strategies, with the challenge of creating something printable which not only takes into the logic of the machine they are using into consideration, but is also aesthetically relevant in the current design paradigm. The ultimate goal of the workshop was to understand algorithm-based methodology, manipulate it, customize it, iterated and eventually fabricate with it.
Sfeir said that the workshop and winning the award was one of the best experiences where she learned and drew inspiration from all the participants in this knowledge sharing. She also expressed pride at being a Lebanese, NDU Alumna, and architect who achieved widespread recognition in Europe.
