The Department of Media Studies (DMS) at Notre Dame University-Louaize (NDU) launched the first volume in the DMS publication series titled, "Threats to Digital Rights in Lebanon.” This publication is the fruit of a concerted scholarly effort involving academics, researchers, and activists working on this pressing issue that concerns the media landscape in Lebanon with broader implications on the region.
According to DMS Chairperson Dr. Maria Bou Zeid, “The objective is to contribute to the growth of knowledge by providing Lebanese researchers and scholars with academic references that deal with controversial issues, like the one at hand, on a local level. This platform is set to grow and prosper in the years to come.”
This publication is the outcome of the Media Studies Forum, which was held on May 23, 2016. The aim of this initiative was to draft a strategy for better internet access since there is no law in Lebanon, which clearly protects individual internet access in its two main components, i.e. freedom of expression and the right to privacy.
The Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF), Lebanon and Syria, sponsored the publication.
