Notre Dame University-Louaize North Lebanon Campus (NDU-NLC) organized on Thursday, May 31, 2018, its annual Admissions Dinner 2018 for secondary school principals. The dinner was held under the dome of NLC’s new building.
Present were Deputy Ali Darwish, also a part of the Alumni Association, NDU President Fr. Pierre Najem, NLC Director Fr. François Akl, Vice-President for Administration Fr. Samir Ghsoub, SC Director Fr. Naji Khalil, University Chaplain General Fr. Albert Assaf, University Chaplain at NLC Fr. Nabil Habchi, Vice-President for Academic Affairs Dr. Elie Badr, deans, faculty members, and staff.
Following the national and University anthems, Raymond el-Khoury welcomed the audience and provided an overview of the role of the Office of Admissions at NLC.
For his part, Fr. Akl emphasized the importance of education; as the main source of knowledge. He discussed the different majors at the NLC. He also noted that the Faculty of Law and Political Science (FLPS) is scheduled to open next semester at the NLC. He was proud that NLC’s Engineering programs were fully accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.
In the coming months, the University is expecting to receive the results of its institutional accreditation pursuit from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) in the U.S.
Fr. Akl highlighted the Civil Engineering Lab available at the NLC, which is the finest laboratory of its kind in the area. He concluded by saying that in terms of knowledge, schools are the river while universities are the sea. It is only through education and knowledge those future generations can go out into the world and make a difference.
Fr. Najem noted the history of the NLC and its origins from the Monastery of St. Elissaa Bsharri and then its transfer to Chekka and finally Barsa. He added that the goal at NDU is to graduate an educated and virtuous human being.
Darwish delivered a heartfelt speech in which he thanked the University administration, which he said he was proud to be a part of, and promised that he would continue to support NDU in the House of Representatives. During dinner, attendees watched a slideshow highlighting activities, perspectives, and facilities at NLC and listen to soothing tunes played by Docly Laoun on piano.
