The Department of Accounting and Finance (DAF) at NDU, under the sponsorship of BLOMINVEST BANK, was proud to organize from October 2016 through February 2017 the first NDU “Virtual Stock Exchange Competition” for the purpose of disseminating practical knowledge of trading among Finance students, emphasizing the complexity of the stock exchange field and triggering student’s practical abilities. One hundred students eagerly participated in the competition and were efficiently guided to mix theories to applications to manage their portfolios, using virtual money.
The first screening was based on the total portfolio return, the Sharpe ratio, and the number of trades made. Conducting the second screening and choosing the best three participants in the final stage were a joint panel comprising of DAF faculty representatives: Department Chair Dr. Viviane Naimy and Virtual Stock Exchange Competition Mentor Dr. Richard Abi Saleh, as well as BLOMINVEST BANK representatives: Head of Capital Markets Mr. Marwan Abou Khalil and Head of Investor Relations Alexandre Mouradian. The best three participants were Mounir Saridar, Ghiwa al-Ayash, and Fadi Chalawit who were selected based on the portfolio return, Sharpe ratio, strategy used, and presentation skills. BLOMINVEST BANK offered the first three winners prizes of US$2,000, US$1,500, and US$1,000 respectively.
