NDU ALUMNA LYNN CHLELA AWARDED FULBRIGHT SCHOLARSHIP

NDU alumna, Lynn Chlela (BA’20), has been awarded the Fulbright Program Scholarship, an educational and cultural exchange program led by the U.S. government in partnership with 160 countries worldwide.

Chlela will pursue a Masters of Arts in International Security at the University of Denver, Josef Korbel School of International Studies with an emphasis on Governance of Radicalism and Extremism through innovative technologies, Human Trafficking, Counter-Terrorism and Sub-state violence within the Middle East and North Africa region. Inspired by Nadia Murad and Lamiya Haji Bashar, Human Rights Activists, Lynn will exert efforts to countering terrorism and bringing justice to all who suffer from human trafficking, rape, torture, murder, sexual violence, or forced into war by terrorist groups.

Eager to make a difference in Lebanon, Lynn was inspired to apply for the program as the continuous expansion of unrest and downspin in the state security triggered in her a sense of duty towards preserving and promoting Lebanon's stability.

In 2019, while still an NDU student, Chlela was also selected to represent Lebanon at the Study of the United States Women Leadership Academic Exchange program fully funded by the U.S. Department of State through the U.S. Embassy in Beirut.

She also expressed how grateful she was for the support NDU provided, the guidance she received from her instructors, and the role the department of career and placement played in helping her secure her first internship at the United Nations Human Settlement Programme in Beirut. She added, “NDU is where you will always find a support system that will strive to help you grow and succeed.”
