Mission

The mission of the Bachelor of Architecture program is to train students to develop critical thinking through deep analysis of architectural history and theory, to increase awareness of environmental, urban, social, and cultural issues, and most importantly, to design, based on a process of research, analysis, and conceptual thinking that lead to innovative architectural applications.

 

Accreditation

The Bachelor of Architecture program (172 credits) at Notre Dame University – Louaize applied for Initial Candidacy, including the Visiting Team Report (VTR), which was reviewed during the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) meeting on April 26-27, 2024.

After reviewing the program, the NAAB directors voted to grant the B.Arch. program a two-year term of Initial Candidacy.

Program Educational Objectives

The Bachelor of Architecture program offered by the Department of Architecture at the Ramez G. Chagoury, Faculty of Architecture, Arts and Design (FAAD), aims at:

  1. 1.Providing the learner with the proper exposure to foster reflective approach to design and enhance students’ critical thinking.
  2. 2.Developing the intellectual and theoretical backgrounds of the students through the study of ancient, modern and contemporary history, and theories of architecture.
  3. 3.Increasing student’s awareness with respect to environmental and social issues. This concern mainly focuses on the interrelated influence between the human being, society, and architecture.
  4. 4.Contributing to the architectural epistemology.
  5. 5.Preparing the learner for professional practice and post-graduate studies.

 

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon graduation, graduates will:

  • Develop design communication skills.
  • Be inquisitive and broadly informed.
  • Practice critical thinking in design research.
  • Relate cultural and historical knowledge to architectural design. 
  • Design according to Lebanese building rules and regulations.
  • Identify appropriate structural systems in reaction to static and dynamic forces. 
  • Convey technical information appropriately. 
  • Demonstrate understanding of building service system.
  • Recognize building materials and assemblies.
  • Estimate financial implications on building construction.
  • Integrate environmental, financial and social concerns to conduct sustainable design approaches.
  • Conduct comprehensive design approaches including technological, and structural systems and assemblies.
  • Implement design solutions related to safety regulations and standards.
  • Apply skills and acquired knowledge in professional practice.
  • Manage design projects including various stakeholders.
  • Appraise professionally and ethically the requirements of clients, the public and other stakeholders.
  • Lead in supporting communities on projects to meet social needs in a collaborative manner.

 

Admission Requirements

In addition to the University admission requirements, prospective candidates must complete all remedial courses, Math, Physics and/or English, if any, during their first year at Notre Dame University-Louaize. Students who fail to meet the above requirements will not be allowed to proceed to the degree courses in Architecture and other majors of the Ramez G. Chagoury, Faculty of Architecture, Arts and Design. All first-year applicants must complete the Admission Requirements.

 

 

Graduation Requirements

To obtain the degree of Bachelor of Architecture, a student must complete a total of 172 credits with an overall GPA of at least 2.0/4.0.
In addition, all Core and major courses must be successfully completed with a minimum grade of “C-”.  
In addition, all Architectural Design courses (ARP 222, 232, 311, 322, 433, 444, 555, 556, 590, 592 and 594) must be successfully completed with a minimum grade of “C+”.

 

Prior to enrolling into the ARP 590-Senior Study courses, student will have to fulfill the following requirements:

  • A minimum of 21 credits of their LAC courses must be completed prior to taking ARP courses. 
  • Prerequisites: ARP 454, ARP 556, ARP 438, ARP 562.
  • ARP 329 is obligatory for Architecture students.
